I have been sitting on the sidelines for a couple of years watching this thing called “social media” not knowing if I was going to jump on board or not. It was 20 years ago that I was saying the exact same thing about technology. It did not take me long to realize back then that if we didn’t jump on the wagon and embrace technology, we’d be left in the dust. And, for that reason, a North SA Chamber technology committee was born. Since that time, the continues to be at the forefront of educating people on technology and social media.
I now believe the same about social media. It is here to stay, and there’s no getting around it. Like it or not, we do have to embrace this universal phenomenon that is completely changing both the professional and personal landscapes of this world we occupy!
I first began to realize the power of social media while at a luncheon featuring three panelists discussing the topic. Katie Harvey of was one of the panelists. Her firm had done the river expansion campaign. If you recall, one could hardly turn on the T.V. or open a newspaper without seeing something about the new expansion. Imagine my shock to learn that practically the entire campaign had been driven by social media. It was not about buying advertising spots. It was all about reaching the general public and the media in a relevant and timely manner.
– The power of social media.
I was barely dabbling in Facebook, and not doing much more than that now; however, that’s soon to change. So many of my wonderful friends from Coronado High School in El Paso, TX, whom I haven’t seen since we graduated, are reconnected. In fact, many of us have reunited physically in different locations a few times. Never would I have thought that would ever occur. – Again, the power of social media.
You might wonder how Elliott Connection intends to use this technology. Simply put, it is the next giant step we’re taking to share the wisdom I’ve amassed through these many years in business. We will integrate the power of social media to greatly broaden my ability to successfully pursue strong connections for clients and business associates.
So I come with both anticipation and anxiety into this whole new world of communicating and doing business. It’s like learning how to walk all over again! And I certainly can’t go it alone as it is simply too overwhelming. I’ve been watching from afar a person whom I’ve gained much admiration for in this field. I’m referring to (link to Google – she’s everywhere). She is not one who does the implementation; rather, she teaches us how to implement, which is exactly what we need.
I hope you will enjoy taking this trek with me as we explore ways to create more business for you and yours. It will be both fun and exciting! My Power of Connections blogs will offer sage advice and examples that can be useful for everyone.
Linda,
I’m looking forward to learning with you. I don’t know a tweet from a peep so I guess it’s time to join the real world and learn more. Thanks for sending me your first blog.
Margaret — We will be learning together!!!
I’m so proud of you Linda for your embrace of social media! It’s just a new form of connecting that makes you the powerhouse in this town for all of us in business. Case in point, you connected my business, ContourLase Body Institute, and I to Jennifer Navarette. I, too, am learning the necessity of social media in business through Jennifer.
Great blogs Linda and look forward to reading future stories!
