The Power of Relationships – Rory Siefer

bus_sa_feature_boundMy name is Rory Siefer, and I own a uniquely specialized company called , a private book publishing company. We produce family biographies and corporate histories in the form of very high quality coffee table books. Each book takes over a year to produce. As you can imagine, our prospect world is quite limited. We need to connect with individuals who want to capture and preserve their priceless family history for generations to come and with companies that wish to capture the essence of the business, their people, and unique company culture.

Our biggest challenge is getting an audience with prospective clients. Those doors are hard to get through without help from well-connected people who have developed the relationships and credibility over time. That’s why we came to you, Linda. You have introduced me to some incredible people whom I could never have been able to meet with otherwise. The experience of working with you has truly been amazing! Our challenge now is finding other “Linda Elliotts” in cities across the country.

The Power of Relationships

The Power of Relationships

The old cliché “It’s not what you know, but rather who you know” is absolutely on target.  I am living proof of that fact!  If you are reading this blog, I trust you are one of my valued relationships.

I attempted to look up the definition of “relationship” and found the search to be fruitless for my purposes.  I personally define relationships as genuine mutual respect and congeniality between people.  Developing strong relationships, both in business and personally, will sustain you in life!

One of the very best relationship builders I know is Charlie Amato, Chairman of SWBC.  He and his elementary school friend, Gary Dudley, President of SWBC, started the company in 1976 with $1,500.  Now SWBC is a privately-held, multi-faceted international financial services company with over 2,000 employees across the country.  How did SWBC become a recognized leader in their industry?  I contend it was through building and developing relationships.  PEOPLE WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE THEY LIKE AND TRUST!  Later on in the month I will interview Charlie so that he can share some of his tips on building relationships, and I will post our session […]

Power of Social Media – Awkward Flight

This cracks me up.  How many times have we felt imposed upon in a crowded airplane?  Through the power of social media, this YouTube video went viral, and the gentleman was flown to NYC to be interviewed on “Good Morning America”.  I do hope the woman has a good sense of humor!

The Power of Social Media – Interview with Jennifer Navarrete

Jennifer Navarrete - Speaks Social Media

This added direction into the social media world has been a fascinating journey for me so far.  I imagine that some of the people who listen to this interview are in the same boat I was – wondering how to work social media into their businesses.  Let me share a bit about Jennifer Navarrete whom I am interviewing.  (http://jennifernavarrete.com/)

I have heard her present at a couple of meetings, the first time at a NAWBO luncheon.  I have also heard several talks on social media, but Jennifer was different.  She is the techie; I’m certainly not, but she helps to put everything into perspective so that it makes sense for people like me.  I hope you enjoy the interview.

The Power of Social Media

power_of_social-media-shadowI have been sitting on the sidelines for a couple of years watching this thing called “social media” not knowing if I was going to jump on board or not.  It was 20 years ago that I was saying the exact same thing about technology.  It did not take me long to realize back then that if we didn’t jump on the wagon and embrace technology, we’d be left in the dust.  And, for that reason, a North SA Chamber technology committee was born.  Since that time, the continues to be at the forefront of educating people on technology and social media.

I now believe the same about social media.  It is here to stay, and there’s no getting around it.  Like it or not, we do have to embrace this universal phenomenon that is completely changing both the professional and personal landscapes of this world we occupy!

I first began to realize the power of social media while at a luncheon featuring three panelists discussing the topic.  Katie Harvey of was one of the panelists.  Her firm had done the river expansion campaign.  If you recall, one could hardly turn on […]
