The Power of Giving Back

The Power of Giving BackGiving back is a topic near and dear to me. I am sure this is so for all of you reading this. There are so many needs in every community that we can clearly see – how can we possibly not help?

In San Antonio, we are truly blessed with amazing generosity from wonderful corporate citizens, incredibly committed foundations, and philanthropically minded individuals.  I truly believe the need to engage and help is a basic characteristic of being a caring human being.  Monetary gifts are always needed by non-profit organizations.  Yet in an increasingly expensive world, that is not always the answer for many of us who live on strict budgets.  The reality is there is simply not enough to extend beyond meeting our basic cost-of-living obligations.

The reason I wanted to address this topic is that I am living proof that giving of yourself in unique ways will bring benefits you never imagined were possible. The richness of my life today is directly related to my involvement in our community over the years.  I’m blessed with a broad range of friends and associates who would […]

The Power of Connecting – Kathleen Quiroz

Kathleen Quiroz is a highly respected attorney and partner with Strasburger Price whose practice focuses on healthcare regulatory issues. More importantly, she is my friend. There are very few people I know who put others before themselves better than Kathleen does. She works absolutely ridiculously long hours, but when we’re together her total focus is on me. She is very concerned about how I am doing, and consistently offers advice and assistance in reaching my goals.

Both of us have grown exponentially through our connection, which has developed into a very strong relationship. Not only do we do business together, we also celebrate our friendship outside the professional arena. That is the power of connecting!

The Power of Connecting vs. Networking

rete personeMost people probably think of networking and connecting as being interchangeable, but there is a profound difference. To put it bluntly, networking will yield you a drawer full of business cards and connecting will yield you some meaningful relationships. That said, you can understand why I wince when referred to as the queen of networking.

At a conference years ago we were challenged to see who could gather the most business cards. It was all about meeting as many people as possible in a specified period of time. I found the activity quite offensive, and knew immediately if that was the secret to achieving success, I was not going to amount to much in life. That exercise might be a bit extreme, but I’m sure most of us have been to events where we have received a pocketful of cards, and can’t recall who gave them to us.

There are multiple opportunities to attend networking events. It is inevitable you’ll encounter folks who are schmoozing and trying to sell themselves to as many people as possible. Often the attack is cold and impersonal. It’s all about them and their business, […]

The Power of First Impressions – ContourLase Body Institute

Dr MozerskyI can not leave this month about the Power of First Impressions without mentioning Dr. David Mozersky and .  As I have matured, I have become increasingly the victim of my poor habits when I was young and fancy-free.  As an intransigent “sun bunny” I defied those irksome warnings that sunbathing could be dangerous to your health.  They simply did not apply to me!  I was invincible – or so I thought!!  Years later I’m plagued with the consequences of my abuse, suffering from occasional skin cancers and aging skin.  And, certainly, gravity does not help matters!  I have now become passionate about taking care of me and the way I look, but in a natural way.  It is so important to look the best we possibly can.  ContourLase Body Institute helps me to do just that with non-invasive skin care treatments.  In all of my life, I have never had so many compliments on my skin and general appearance – and I love it.  Just knowing I look better than I did 10 years ago gives me a boost in confidence that is absolutely incredible.

The Power of First Impressions

puzzleIs there anybody who comes to your mind that really stood out in a positive way when you first saw him/her?   What was it that attracted you to the person?  Was it attractiveness, style, smile, friendliness, air of confidence?  In other words, what is it that causes heads to turn?  The fact is, it is a little bit of everything – put together in one neat little package.

God blessed all of us with wonderful attributes to share with the world.  No matter if you are tall or short, fat or skinny, rich or poor – you have fine qualities!  Here are some tips that might help you to look deep into yourself to see how you might better present “the real you” to the world.

  • BE PUNCTUAL.  It is both rude and disrespectful to be late.  Example:  A person I know and like was consistently late to events where she had a function to perform, causing problems with the schedule.  I have known her for 20+ years and her consistent tardiness of the past is always the prevailing impression that comes to mind.
  • BE YOU.  People can see a fake a mile away.  […]

Power of Relationships – The Rat Pack

I’m aging myself when I refer to the ever-famous Rat Pack of the ‘60s Dean Martin. And from this video, one can assume Johnny Carson was part of the pack. Who knew he could sing?!! This is a great tribute to the power of relationships. Enjoy some fond memories.
